I bathe before a show or if I'm in a "mood" or if a horse is just ridiculously dirty. In the winter I generally just settle for a curry for general riding but if I am going to a show I go to my trainers because she has hot water, so I bathe in the hot water and then wrap her up in coolers so stay warm.

But, they get hosed off whenever they are worked in the summer. And they get misters or sprinklers in the pasture to play in.

Pssh.I didn't pick up the wrong lead
It's called a counter canter...
...A very advanced maneuver.

Personally O bathe daily!
The horses will, if they are sweaty get washed down, without shampoo, with warm water, after a ride.

During the winter when they are clipped out and fox hunting they will get bathed after a days hunting.
This is done with shampoo and hot water, it gets them clean quickly, the hot water is both more comfortable for them and opens the pores to allow any trapped mud to be freed.
I scrape them off and then rug them up for the night. The moisture wicks through the rugs and they are dry within 20 minutes.

The day before a show, which in the summer could be every weekend. I also bathe if they're too dirty to bother brushing before a ride.

For winter shows I vacuum or hot towel bathe.

I spray my horse with water around 4 times a week USUALLY during the summer (it does vary). However, I probably only sud-up once a month or so.

God bless, englishaqh (:

I rinse of my horses everyday after riding... As of a real bath? About twice a year maybe! It all depends how much I show.

Sorry, but I started reading this and I was horrified that some people would admit to only bathing 4 times a year....THEN I realized you were talking about horses! ROFL

I rinse with water after long rides, but only use shampoo every other week. I know my friend's friend bathed her horse everyday with shampoo and got this really bad skin infection or something

Today was bath day! Both boys were grungy, so they got shampoo all over with conditioner in their manes and tails. I'm sure they rolled as soon as I left the barn.

I like to give them a quick curry and brush when they come in for grain. That keeps them marginally clean. I rinse off sweat after riding. Otherwise the rain rinses them off. They get real baths only when they need it or we have something to do.

My horses have no idea of what a shampooing is. I let nature rinse them.

My horse gets bathed before shows (we go to ~3 per year), and spot cleaned every day that he's there. He stays surprisingly clean at home, but when we go somewhere else, he likes to poo in the middle of the stall and sleep in it

I shampoo before braiding and don't have any problems with it, but I only do a running braid because his mane is so long and I'm not willing to cut it to do button braids. You could put a little gel into the braids if you have problems with them coming undone. (I guess then you'd need to wash your horse after the show, too!)

I also hose him down any time he gets sweaty during a ride.
