No that owning all the horse show grooming stuff isn't fun. But I have found cheeper alternatives. I do buy a good stubbin shampoo. But I use baby powder instead of chalk, baby oil instead rub in detangler/shiner for knees, nose, mane and tail. I use Spray'n'white to take out any last minute stains.

Just sayin ;) You could save on the grooming stuff and have more to spend on the other stuff.

Maybe... but baby oil attracts the sun. Maybe not such a problem in the USA but here in Aus, it is something we have to think about... with a pink nose she will already be more prone to getting sunburnt. Vaseline clumps and therefore looks icky. My chalk block was $4 and will last a while so I have no qualms with that one, and my clear highlighter was half price at about $8.50, so I'm not bothered by that either.

Hmm... to blacken the legs or not to blacken the legs? She doesn't need any on her face, she is in the process of being clipped (I started with the head) and is much darker around her eyes/muzzle than the rest of her face so the emphasis on those features is there already.

When I get paid next it will be straight back to the tack shop for a couple more things, hopefully I'll be able to pick up a cotton sheet, hood and tail bag, but something I will need to get is razors to shave off her whiskers... yes, something I said I would never do, but it somehow doesn't look right to be all clipped and tidy and then have a whiskery nose.

I can promise you that in the Southeastern US (what use to be called the "deep South") we get way more sun than is needed with our sub-tropical (and tropical in a couple spots) climate.

True, but you don't have the hole in the ozone layer directly over the top of your continent ;)
