Long manes

I just tried something a bit odd but it seems to be working now for a week- (hope the photos come thru---) I wrapped Grace's long mane in sections with -yes- blue painters tape. (I usually braid+ re-braiding alot.) My next effort will be to use the sticky vet wrap in small sections like the tape...the painters tape is goofy, yes; Anyone try & tell their story, if you test it out ??

Its painters tape, so it shouldn't unless its really hot there and the tape melts.

Ooo that's a good idea! My mares mane is getting fairly long, but if I braid it she starts to rub it, and it is always getting in wind knots, no matter how much conditioner I put in it.

That looks really cool, but I would also be concerned about the sticky residue being left over after removal. Any sort of masking tape will have that sticky nasty mess whenever it gets hot or wet.

I've been lucky with my horses with long manes. Generally speaking, they stay pretty tangle free.

Whenever I do braid for whatever reason, I normally just do short braids. I'll braid about the top 2-3 inches of the mane and leave the rest of it under the band loose. That's normally enough to keep it from tangling too badly...but none of mine have a mane as long as hers is.

If I braid my mares she finds EVERYTHING to rub/snag the braids on... then I have less mane than I started with -_-'. I gave up lol.

Our first horse had a fairly long main (that was almost to his shoulder) and our current horse has a THICK and WAVY mane... The only product I use, and because of it I've never had to deal with wind knots/tangles or breaking hair, is Healthy Haircare Hair Moisturizer:

Hair Moisturizer

I make the product significantly stronger than recommended, but either way works.

This stuff is fabulous and can even be used on the coat. It doesn't attract dust or dirt and isn't slick.

The only thing I've noticed is that it is a bit of a magnet for 'love bugs' here in Florida.

Ugh all this talk about long manes makes me wish I had never touched Drifter's. Here is a pic of how it was, and what it is now. I definitely regret the pulling decision. Definitely. Thankfully he's a fast mane grower. I'm ready for his long locks to be back! OP, your horse is GORGEOUS. Drifters was also very thick when it was long so I would just braid it. It took a while but it kept it from getting too tangled. His was never as long as that gorgeous thing though!

I have my horse Cinder, his mane is sooo thick and long he gets restless when I take too long to braid it.
The blue tape was a great idea.

I have a Spanish horse with a very long mane. I used to braid it in sections when I put him out, but it seemed as though he lost more mane from taking those braids back out than he did when I just left his mane down and didn't braid it at all.

A large pin brush, patience, and Cowboy Magic Detangler are my best friends for keeping a long beautiful mane. I usually leave his mane down when he's out, then add CM Detangler and brush it carefully, then do a 3 minute running braid before I ride him.
