Loping Aid Help

Over the years I have been taught various ways to use your legs while loping. I have been taught to hold the outside leg on the hip and the inside leg up by the shoulder on and off to the rhythm of the horse. I have also been told the use the outside leg to ‘drive’ the horse to the rhythm of that leg with the inside leg holding the shoulder up.
Is there anyone who can expand on the correct rhythm to use both of your legs at the lope. I understand that all horses are trained differently but there should be a general way to lope a horse? Shouldn’t there??

I was told by my new coach to use my outside leg as well, but the way I started my horse is was to put pressure on my inside leg to que the lead (as the right lead will always be on the inside) but she knows better than I do!

It can vary with every horse cause people train them different but for MOST horses its outside leg only to drive them into the lope. I know some horses are different but usually you will only use your outside leg during the lope. Using your outside leg to keep them loping, drive them forward, etc.. I have not heard of putting your inside leg by their shoulder but I am not sure how your horses are trained lol A gelding I ride is spur stop so when he speeds up in the lope you lightly squeeze both legs to slow him down to the proper lope.I usually ride with the rhythm of 1-2-3 outside leg, 1-2-3 outside leg if that make sense. But it depends on the horse Not sure if this helped? But good luck!
