Mane growing :p

Well I'd like to find a way to quickly grow out the parts of Sonny's mane that he's rubbed off or pulled off (by getting it stuck on things and pulling).

I know MTG works really good and I've been using it, but anything else I should use/apply on top of or instead of MTG?

His mane used to be soooo beautiful, but now it's all uneven and icky...some parts are good...one part is practicually bare...one part is mohawk style and another part is just a tad shorter than the other

Any ideas?

even it out by pulling it as well as your can and do your best to keep dandruff away with lots of baths. Once its back try putting his mane in a quick running braid at night or when he is pron, then the worst that can happen is that he makes the braid come out

if I make it all once length he will literally have no mane at all...I want to get the two shorter parts a little longer so if I do pull it he will have some mane.

How exactly do I "pull" a horse's mane? Wouldn't just cutting it with scissors work also? I've never done anything to Sonnys or any other horses mane so I don't know what to do or what not to do

Khoda is missing a chunk right in the middle of his mane and it's driving me bonkers. lol

I don't want to cut it all short either. You can get special man thinners and brushes that you use like regular combs, but I'm not a fan of either cutting or thinning. I'm going to start using MTG and hopefully that helps.

You can buy these mane bags that go around their neck so they can't catch their mane on anything, I've no idea on cost though as I've never used on.

the problem is...I don't think he'd keep a mane bag or even a neck sweat thing (whatever they are called) on. He wouldn't keep his fly mask on and it ended up costing me about $50 because he pulled back a huge piece of skin and I needed SWAT and sme ointment for it so it didn't get infected.

It might be worth a try, but I was hoping to get something that I wouldn't have to wrap it or anything

Question: I've heard people say don't cut the mane with scissors....just pull it...but what is so bad about cutting it with scissors (if anything bad)?

I think why most people don't suggest scissors is because it can come out choppy and uneven...other than that I can't see a reason for not using them.

I love having long, flowing manes on horses... sometimes that's a lot of work!

so there's nothing really "bad" about using scissors for their mane? Great! Now I have to wait till it grows to at least 5 inches and then I"ll chop it all to that length

I don't see anything wrong...as long as you work carefully!!

my horse did the same thing but keep using the mtg trust me i have tried everything and that is the best stuff on the market!!
it may smell bad but it works!!!
