Mane pulling?

I feel really dumb asking this, but what kind of 'comb' do you use for mane pulling? && I don't want to thin it, just shorten it, since its already pretty thin. Before, we just used these scissor-trim things [see link below] to trim his mane....so any tips on mane pulling will be greatly appreciated!

To shorten a mane you don't pull it, you cut it, and since you said you cut it before, I would stick with that, you get more accurate results.

Sorry to contradict the last poster, but you do pull manes to shorten and thin them.. I hate cutting manes since they look so unnatural.. pulling manes leaves them looking natural, and you don't have to worry about getting it uneven as with scissors.
It's a short metal comb that you can get at your tack store, like this one:

You grab a section of mane, backcomb it until you're at the bottom-most layer thin enough that you can wrap it around the comb and pull out, and do just that.
Do this until you are at the desired length when you brush the mane out.

Pulling manes can also be used to just pull the longer hairs out, not just to thin it. This should not thin out the mane too much. Again, back-comb until you reach the long hairs at the bottom of the mane.
Sorry, I'm totally against cutting the mane with scissors.. whenever I've seen it done it looks totally unnatural.. kind of like it's been cut with scissors.. go figure!
Now, I have no idea what your cutting job looks like, I'm just generalizing!!

Cutting a horse's mane with scissors can ruin it. It depends what disipline your're doing though.

I prefer pulling.

If you don't want to thin the mane at all and just shorten it, you can cut it. The preference for the look is up to you, what you like, and what discipline you ride. You can thin it with a comb sometimes, trim it with scissors sometimes whatever is necessary.

When I do need to cut the mane, I use hair scissors from the Sally Beauty Supply. You don't have to be a hair dresser to shop there. They are between $10 - $20 for a decent pair. Don't use them to do anything but cutting hair or they will get dull. The job they do looks 100% better than any other type of scissors.
