May be stupid to some but...hoof polish question

My gelding has three black hooves and one white/striped hoof. What do I use to polish up the white/striped hoof? It looked terrible when I just painted them all with hoof polish at the last show...so if I do the other three with the polish what can I use on the other one??

I'd say all 4 with clear or all 4 with black.

IMO, use black on the blacks, clear on the striped

I use either all black or all clear.... usually black for showing and I use a clear when I do dressage/Show hunter

Black on black hooves, clear on white or striped hooves. Make sure to lightly sand them so they are smooth and clean before you use the polish. They should look like patent leather.

I have nothing to offer, except to say I do NOT think that was a dumb question! I read it and thought "hmmmm...I have no idea! That's a good question!""

This is the way I have been told for 30 plus years

I was told by a judge that if the hoof isn't black it shouldn't be painted that way. So black on black and clear on the striped one.

I like the idea of sanding them down too...

I think the stripe on the white hoof should be black though

Also depends on the breed of horse. I know with arabians their hooves cannot be painted with hoof black, it has to be clear. In my opinion, I think sanding them really good and putting a nice shiny coat of hoof clear on all four looks the best. :)
