Question Mineral oil for dirt stains?

I was told my Legacy's breeder to use a 9oz bottle of mineral oil on a clean tail, leave it in, braid it up, and turn her out. She said it looks disgusting but it coats the tail and will break up any stains in it and wash out the day before the show blazing white.

Now that goes against what I've read about braiding and bagging a wet tail. I've read it will mold and fall out and Legacy's tail takes -I timed it- 6 hours to dry.

Has anyone used Mineral Oil this way? Does it work?
