My horse, a 17.1hh Hanoverian/paint, has a perma-stain on his right hind leg. We have tried almost everything from cowboy magic to baking soda and nothing seems to work. Can I have some suggestions?
Try dish detergent with enzymes or even gentle fabric soap. The enzymes can help to break down any organic matter and lift the stain. Make sure to not dilute it, rub it on and leave it for a few minutes, then wash wash wash and scrub. Make sure you get all the soap out and the stain should come off too.
The best way to get rid of perma stains is to prevent them.
Make sure at least once a week (ideally every day) you are getting rid of each and every stain.
Get some laundry blue-ing and mix it with some type of soap or shampoo.
Since it's only on his leg you can use Tide Bleach Alterative. I use it on my mare who is very light and it works great! Just make sure you was it off really well. :)
I agree with the above. I use the powdered version and dissolve it in warm water. Cold water stinks for removing stains. I also wish I had a pressure washer!
