Two weeks before body clip EVERYTHING.
3-4 days before dye my horses tail to get rid of hilights.
Day before show SCRUB my horse with quick silver, wash his tail separately, condition everything.
I will also rasp any rough edges on his hooves if there are any.
I will let him dry off during this time in a grassy area because he won't roll if there is food. When he's dry I wrap his tail. He gets a slinky and a blanket so no dirt gets to him and standing wraps if he is staying is his stall the night before.
The morning of the show I pull him out, take the blankets and slinky off to make sure there's no stall stains on his legs, put it all back on and load up.
As soon as the stall is made for my horse at the show he goes on cross ties and he gets his mane banded or braided and hair sprayed. A light brushing and shine spray everywhere. Baby oil around the eyes and muzzle. I sand his hooves and paint them. Just before entering a class I put his tail in.
This is for showmanship/halter. I do things a little differently if I have a riding class the first day of the show.
Things where allot different when we were showjumping. Helped to have someone with a groom box near bye to touch up the horse just before entering the ring after warmup.
