Pulling/braiding the tail- compulsory for pony club?

I was wondering whether you need to pull/braid your horse's tail for Pony Club competitions/ribbon days and/or rallies. I live in New Zealand.
Oh, and what about the mane? Does it need to be braided/pulled?
Thanks!

For pony club rallies you need to be clean and tidy. So clean horse/pony, clean gear, neat and tidy uniform. Most pony clubs have best presented awards at the end of the year trophy nights.

Plaiting is only compulsory for shows. :)
