The breeders where I got Bella pulled manes on their horses. When I got my girl she had a much thinner mane. I trimmed it to one length (because she had a major rub spot) and then let it all grow in the way it normally would grow. Here's a picture of her mane now. This is also with having used the MTG on the rub spot. It looks a little thin because I just sprayed it with mane and tail conditioner and brushed it, but it's so much nicer than it was when i got her.

Hmm, I've never done it this way by easing it out of the neck. I may have to try this with Molly, as she is an absolute beast to have hers pulled. I think Excel actually enjoys it.

Some horses are more sensitive than others. One of my horses doesn't even flinch, while my other one simply will not tolerate it. There are no nerve endings in their crest, and it is usually thick with fat, so most horses barely notice that the hair is being pulled. I suggest using a mane comb because it makes it easier in my opinion. Watch videos, or ask a knowledgable person on how do correctly use one. ;)

A tip - pull the mane when it is hot outside, hair pulls out easier. Discovered this after decades of pulling manes, a job I loathe!

When it is hot is always easier. I got so much done the first day because it was quite warm. Today I got hardly any done before she got narky at me. Will get there eventually, I guess. Last resort is always to just cut it with scissors & do 50 million rosettes instead of between 12-15 (isn't that the usual "traditional" numbers??) but that'll take ages.
