Yes the hair is pulled out by the roots. Part of the mane is sectioned off, and most of the hair brushed up backwards, and whats left is wrapped around a comb and pulled out so the mane is shorter/thinner
From the face I'm assuming you think it hurts the horse..?
If so, it doesn't. :3 I'm pretty sure they don't have nerve endings there (or so I'm just about positive), meaning it doesn't hurt them like if our hair is pulled. Posted via Mobile Device
It does not really hurt them as they have very few nerve endings. Some horses don't like how it moves/pulls at their neck & that is usually why they complain
As far as how much hair..I've never counted. But it depends on the area and the sensitivity of the horse..
But not much. Little tiny bits. I'd estimate....15-20 hairs average?? Not sure.
Know anyone at your barn/around your neighborhood who pulls their horses' manes that you could ask for a demonstration?
