Sierra has a tendency to get a tail not up high by the dock but this one is insane. Usually I can loosen it with my fingers and comb through until it's out but this time, it feels like she must have gotten into something sticky or maybe there is a briar inside the gnarly mess but it is so bad that I can't seem to get it out. I have tried the detangler but it's not enough. I can't decide what to do. I don't want to cut it out but it's a really, really bad one. And it seems to have happened over night. I have some cowboy magic that I haven't tried because once I put that on my fingers get slick and it's hard to work it. I thought about washing the tail and then leaving a conditioner in it for 10 or 20 minutes? I have coconut oil and MTG... Thought about baby oil? I haven't tried anything yet because it's bad enough I think I want advice before moving forward.... The sticky in it does not come out in your fingers but it's feeling almost as if it were velcroed together. I can't see anything within the knot that could be causing the issue. It will be dark when I get home tonight and tomorrow but Thursday I can get a picture. I can't leave it like this though. It has to be annoying....
Depends on the brand but yes it typically looks like crisco when cool and melts in warmer temps to a liquid. Same theory as using peanut butter to get gum out of hair the oil works it's way through the adhesive properties breaking it down and making the hair slick. The more expensive typically the better the grade and smoother the oil. I bought a huge tub or $4.00 coconut oil that is grainy but works just as well for that purpose.
Coconut oil should work well, I've actually used it to get pine sap off my hands after walking around in pine forests. Work it in, let it soften, and it should be OK. I'd also try to use a wide-toothed comb if you can instead of your fingers, it's just easier to separate out the hairs as they come loose.
@farmpony84 that braid looks amazing! How did you do that? Definitely something I want to try on my own hair. My niece and nephew (5 & 3) regularly tell me I need a haircut, so I should have something to show for it!
I figured that out while experimenting and came back to see you confirm it XD It does look awesome, in my own hair as well! Its like a cheat 7-strand braid. Love it, definitely one of my favorites!
That's an impressive braid!
I see you use my favorite mane and tail brush. : )
