Rubbed out spot of mane?

My mare has a spot of mane that is consistantly gone, its probably like 4-6 inches missing. It started 2 years ago when she was reaching between the not-actually-hot wire to get the grass. Since then I can't keep it growing. It was like 4-5" long this summer so I trimmed her mane a little so it could possibly be back to the same length this summer. But then earlier this winter I was brushing her out and it looked like she had bad matts in her mane at that spot but when I went to untangle it with my hands it all fell out with no pressure at all. So now that section is almost completely bald again.

I want to show her this summer, it will be just schooling shows so it doesn't REALLY matter, but it is still awkward to have a horse with a half missing mane. Isn't there a product out there that encourages the hair growth? I don't remember what its called. Or is there a way I could disguise it with some creative braiding?

Same problem here. Grr. She rubbed a width of 4-6 inches midway down her mane almost bald. She use to be in a smaller paddock. Now that I've moved her into a 7 acres pasture I still feel like she rubs that spot. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I've finally got the patch long enough to do some training braids..(she rubbed the spot that was flipped to the wrong side) but there are still some fly-aways that are only about 1-2 inches in length. I use M-T-G by Shapleys to encourage growth, baby oil, I've even used a sleazy mane tamer. I've heard the best option is an electric fence....

Eh. Jester can't keep a good mane either.

I eventually gave up. I roached it and then let it grow out again, and now it's a full 2 inches of sorrel and white mohawk. He looks better with the short mane, actually. But now Annie has started rubbing her mane off on the trees in the pasture. Merf.

I have the same problem with whiskey, she keeps sticking her head through the barriers to get bits of hay that must look better than the stuff she had so now she's a little baldie locks...i have thought of clip in hair extensions lol im sure they'd kinda work

A good friend of mine uses shoe polish. It seals the hair folickles and somewhat disguises the bald spot. I myself have never tried it but it seemed to work for her in the ring and the judge did not take notice.

M-T-G is the product I was thinking of. I have been told that roaching her mane would be the best option but I really can't see my arab with a roached mane. I've tried sleezies but she tears them (but not in the spot that she rubs). She isn't in the pasture with the not-actually-hot wire anymore, she was moved away from that barn 2 years ago, and now her pasture has wooden fencing that she can't reach threw, so I don't think she is rubbing it by trying to get to the grass anymore.

I know how you feel! Maysie does it all the time and it drives me nuts! I've used loads of products but none seem to show any lasting results :(
It only really happens at summertime so I always wonder weather it could be the heat, she stopps it around autumn and so it starts to grow back but by spring (which is now) she starts to rub it all out again and it looks horrid, I was going to hunt her but I pulled out as it is plain embarasing!
