I prefer everything long and nayural too,I think it looks wild and beautiful.
When we bought Twinkle, she had a short mane and tail, and my son said she looked very cool like she had a "mowhawk" hair cut, lol, but we're letting them grow now.
Good luck,Steve
I'm not sure why I have this love for roached manes and long tails. As long as your horse has the neck to pull off the roached look...I say do it!!!
Of course my hubby completely disagrees with me and love the long mane and tails. *sigh*
Ah, I voted before I read the second post. I voted long both because I consider short manes to be trimmed ones(short) and long to simply be their natural length. Same with tails. Short I would consider to be hock or shorter and long down to pasterns. I don't do dragging on the ground tails. so, guess my vote is wrong according to your considerin.. lol
I love long tails, but not super thick ones. Then they can be insane to manage. As for manes, I love long ones, but not if they're uneven and stringy looking. I prefer a mane about neck lenght and straight, which is what my mare has right now. I like the neat, but nautral look. That being said, pulled manes are very smart looking and roached manes are so much fun to touch! xD I adore long forelocks though. <3
Loki has a long, thick, mane and tail that I absolutely adore. His mane can be a royal pain to groom and he really likes to flip nearly half of it over the other side of his neck...but it's just so pretty ^^
His tail touches the ground too...he likes to really show it off and flag it like an Arab when he canters xD
Red, on the other hand, has a long, thinner mane and tail. He's a really petite, delicate looking horse and it just kinda goes with him.
They both remind me of those wild mustang stallions whenever I get to go out to the stables, teehee
I think it really depends on the horse, the breed and what it is you do with the animal. I always have a long tail on all my horses, as for the mane, I prefer them to go hunter style BUT ,my boy has the most gorgeous mane so...it's long right now
I love long and natural for both mane and tail. I also tend to draw to the breeds that tend to have nice thick mane and tails - such as haflingers and mustangs.
I'd have to say I like the long manes and long tails look. That could be a little of my reiner showing, though. :P
But that's what I like, and all of my horses have le long flowing look goin' on. So yeah. But OMG, are they a pain in the butt to manage... Still, well worth it when you lope into the show ring and their manes and tails are flowing. *loves it*
shorts manes because I show h/j and event so it needs to be braided
and long tails because they look pretty but not touching the ground because that would be a pain when out going xc
I have to admit, long manes and tails look so lovely cos of the whole natural element, but all my horses have their mane and tail short because I'm a show rider (okay, soon to be a show rider, haha)... and find them easier to care for when cut and kept in shape. My best friend is a show queen, so I picked up my habit from her! And FutureVetGirl, I find leaving the mane and tail alone unless you're getting ready for a show, or its growing out of shape, is the best method... especially with tails... when you brush a tail, you take out so much hair! I'd rather keep mine nice and full... although maybe I ought to lay into Bailey's, its too thick!
long, but not too long ! goes for both manes and tales ! i find it very offputting when a horses forelock is too long (more then 1/2 of his face or so) and when a tail starts to drag on the ground, yuck !
