Starting about a week out we pull the mane, do ears and face hairs and all. We start paying really really close attention to daily groomings. Day before we bathe, condition and all, wrap the twil head. Day of body groom, braid if showing dressage, condition and shine, tip of nose to tip of tail. If showing dressage I carry a soft brush and keep her clean, jumpers is clean in between divisions. Our horses get groomed almost daily anyway, and always before each ride.
Favorite grooming things, pink lady spray for mane and tail, soft cloth for wiping off dust, baby wipes for a white nose. Posted via Mobile Device
I show at speed events so a clean horse really doesn't matter. But, I like to show off my horses. LoL. Make em look good.
The night before, or morning of the show I will bathe them and comb out manes/tails. I clip before I bathe, but my clipping only includes the bridle path and whiskers on their face. Washing them, washes away all the prickly hairs. Anyways, then they are usually kept in their stalls over night so they don't get too dirty.
If they were in stalls overnight, I'll do a touch up cleaning before I load in the trailer, in-case anyone laid in poop. (Usually my mare, of course)
Simple as that.
When I showed pleasure, there was a lot more work involved.
My favorite products are World Champion Pepi. Yum. And showsheen. I actually really like Dumor's Shampoo and Conditioner. Smells good.
Shave horses lower legs, around the face, ears etc, then wash the entire horse, brushing out mane and tail with leave in conditioner. Trim mane and tail and dry with a white rag to make sure all the dirt is out.
