Thumbs down Split ends

Hi I have a 7 yr old welsh pony, and once a week I braid her tail, for a friends daughter that comes over and rides her but she's got lots of split ends,
And it always turnes out messy, unlike with all my other horses.
Please give advise, for how to deal with the split ends.

Your pony sounds like he's got a tail a lot like my mini's.. What I do is first of all wash and dry the tail really well, And trim off all the split ends.then braid it and tie it in a not or bunch it all together. Then rap vet wrap around the braid. It stays clean and healthy for months and gives the tail a chance to grow.
Hope this helps

I also use a bag on the tail. Although it doesn't help the splits at the top of the tail. There is a product called Equinique that is the best I've tried. It makes the split ends look really good for a few days. The only thing that positively will get rid of the splits is to put the horse in a stall out of the sun with a tail bag and wrap. I personally think horses are happier if they are out being horses. We are the ones who care about split ends.....not the horse. I say let her be happy.
