sticky coat

My horse is always coming in from outside with really hard, sticky, greasy hair. The worst areas are his stomach, and right side. I cannot give him a bath since it's winter, and none of the brushes help (It sounds like I'm brushing a stone wall if I use a curry comb). Does anyone have any ideas for getting him cleaned up?

Use a shedding blade or metal curry. That seems to work the best for issues like that.
