Fly sheet, that has a neck attachment! Not that expensive, and covers the body, but is nice and light so they don't sweat under it, plus it helps keep the flies off of them.

I agree with Velvet! Just be careful to keep an eye out for rubbing. I used Schneider's fly sheets last year and they're wonderful!! My umm ... enthusiastic curlies didn't wreck them over the summer. I didn't have any major rubbing problems either.

There are sunscreen sprays and I've tried them before. I wasn't consistant enough in applying them to tell you if it was effective or not ...

My guy gets horrible rubs, so I have to use Black as Knight to keep him from bleaching out.

^ paprika is the main ingredient in Black as Knight. You can get it here Bulk Herbs, Alternative medicine, Craft Supply, Herbal Medicine for way cheaper than the Black as Knight. I think 1tbsp is the standard feeding rate.

It does show up on blood tests and I *think* some associations test for it.

I tried straight Paprika. It didn't do a thing.

I bought a fly sheet, neck cover and a fly mask from Schneiders to try and keep my Morgan from fading.

It's going to be an um.... interesting summer. Tried the fly mask on him, he put his head between his legs like a dog and tried to rub it off. The fly sheet is apparently the scariest thing he's ever seen (but turnout blankets aren't scary at all.... ). Maybe buying the clearanced purple fly stuff from Schneiders wasn't the best idea? Course nimwit also thought the cookies I put in his feed pan were really scary too (same cookies he's been eating for months) so perhaps my guy is just short a bit in the brain cell dept.

Well that's good to know!

I haven't tried it. My poor black boy always looks motley by the end of summer.

This is pre-fade in June while he was wearing a fly sheet.

And in September after only about 3 weeks of no fly sheet.

Wow sunedee!

That's a huge change!

I am going to try the paprika and see if it works for my mare. Is that 1tbsp per feeding (twice a day) or 1 tbsp per day?
