Tail braid... How long?

A friend of mine is getting her horses tail braided for the first time. The horse doesn't have a thick tail and I don't think he has ever had his tail braided. How long do you think she can leave it in for? Thanks :)

I leave mine in for a week. When I take it out I wash it, brush it, and then spray it with a baby oil/water mixture so it stays healthy.

Oh, then I guess I don't get why your asking how long to leave it in. Leave it in over night, for the show, and then when you get done take it out.

Sometimes I do them the night before and bandage the tail to protect the plait - only do this if you are good at putting on a tail bandage. Too tight and you can cut off the circulation to the tail and make it very uncomfortable and risk losing hair and possibly the tail.

I rarely leave them in for more than 24hrs as they tend to start getting a bit tatty - best taken out and re done for a two or more day show. If you don't wet the tail inbetween it makes it easier to replait if the hair is a bit crinkly.

From my personal experiance i've never left a plait in for more than 24 hours because it generally looks better done at the last possible minute. For a show I would suggest doing it the day of the show rather than overnight as the plait might come out and the tail gets more dirty if plaited. Hope this helps xx
