Tail chewing

Does anyone know of something to put on tails to keep them from being chewed?

A friend of mine used hot sauce. It worked. ;)

You could use the bitter apple spray for dogs to stop chewing .

I read that nothing likes bitter apple. A muzzle on the culprit would stop the chewing.
