Tips for keeping my boy cool?

My gelding, October sweats profusely outside. His mane is roached and he has shade during the day and plenty of water. But when I go to see him, his neck and body are soaking wet, from just standing in the pasture. Any tips for helping keep a horse cool besides the obvious hosing down and such? Thanks

There is little you can do. When I am at the barn at the moment (we have such a heatwave here) I can't wait to leave. It is unbearable. Just make sure he has as much shade/shelter as you can.

I read somewhere whichhazel is supposed to help cool, but it also dries out skin. If there is anyway a fan would benefit him those tend to cool the sweat and keep the horse cool.

When your there you could spray him down with water before you leave, but if you don't want him to get dirty then I wouldn't do it. But that's just my advice(:

If your horse has a darker coat, he will probablly bebefit from a cooling sheet or fly sheet. The lighter color will keep his coat from attracting as much sun and thus keep him cooler.
