Question What Color Is Ruby?

She is a chestnut but she has a dorsal stripe and lighter mane and tail that darkens on its way down. She has lighter feathering and cannons. She has no white markings other than scars from a larger horse attacking her a while back. Her tail is REALLY dark and almost looks purple-ish at the end. I have NO clue what to call her!

She's just a plain ol' sorrel.. or chestnut! We seem to have a few of those at my house

The 'dorsal stripe' is just counter shading and it's normal for sorrels and chestnuts to have very dark tails and lighter manes. I

She's a chestnut : ]

Chestnuts can have dark hairs as long as they are not black. Some liver chestnuts look purple-ish (hence the name "liver").

Almost any coat color can have what looks like a faint dorsal stripe. It's actually just countershading. My palomino even has one: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2598/...06d62670_o.jpg

You can see one on this Arabian, a breed in which the dun gene does not exist: http://image.shutterstock.com/displa...er-1504223.jpg

Her light lower legs and muzzle could be a very minimal expression of the pangare gene, but that's just a guess.

chestnut?, color, guess, miniature horse
