I use human conditioner most often when I try to get this out. My stallion (seen on my picture) did this to his mane this winter, had a big knot and it was just not on it's way out. I gave him a big bath when he came back to the stables after being outside all the fall and it really helped to give a bunch of conditioner in to the mane, let it stay, and then pick it out with the fingers. Olso to keep it away from knots while they are in stables I use detangler and shine from cowboy magic, but that is totally optional. :)

Cowboy magic detangler all the way, that stuff is amazing! Pour it right into the middle of the matt and work the knots out with your fingers gently - it will take time (you might be best to do it over a couple of days if she gets impatient) but it will work and you won't lose too much hair.

P.S. I feel for you, it is a horrible job getting those big matts out.

Oy yoy yoy! Gotta love kids...how would you not notice a wire in there, though? Anyhoo, glad she's in a better home now!
