I did not know where to put this.
My baby boy is coming home to our new barn on Saturday and I am so excited to spend time with him, grooming, loving
I LOVE being in the barn when it is raining and the country radio is on
My question is, what music do you listen to or what calms you when your in the barn with your horse spending quality time together? What certain things do you do?
I agree. Being in the barn, just spending grooming/quality time with my horses is so wonderful. I had one of those days today: I spent a couple hours grooming everybody (all five), helping them shed the remains of their winter coats, trimming beards and bridle paths, detangling manes and tails. I always listen to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), they have great programs and music.
I love my time with them like this, and the oldest three really love standing in the barn and being pampered. The two youngsters are still a bit antsy but they will learn the pleasures of grooming some day.
I'm a huge fan of grooming in my spare time! spring is my absolute favorite because of the shedding hair and dried mud! ( i like the before and after feeling you get when you FINALLY get a clean horse lol) as for music, I listen to the Black Beauty soundtrack - it's calming, cute, and it's from a horse movie so it must be fitting! =D
My favorite time in the barn is late in the evening, when all the chores have been done, everyone has gone home and a cool breeze is blowing down the shed row. I can relax and watch the horses that have been turned out for the night, peacefully grazing and can listen to the horses that are in their stalls, munching on hay.
Right after I give him a bath and we are grazing waiting for him to (supposedly) dry off and the sun starts setting so it's not too hot......god I can't wait for summer!
I love just being in the barn alone grooming my horses..It has to be one of my top five favorite places..I love it quiet. I like to be brushing one of the horses and hearing the others move around in their stalls, especially right after feeding. I like to hear them munching on their feed..Heaven!
lol and, I just feel like being a snot right now because I am loving living in the south..it was nothing but sunny and 88 here today..Its been so nice the past few weeks..just had to say it..We are being punished with flies though. They are already awful here..ugh..
My favorite thing is to groom Kelty's mane and tail. It's long and silky and I'll comb it, band it, braid it, or just run my fingers through it. He is very vain, loves this, and completely goes to sleep. Eyes closed, leg cocked, out.
To all those who claim their favorite thing is grooming: you arevery welcome tocome by our barn anytime. Preferrably before a show
I use my barn time to unwind. My favorite time is when it's quiet, Sunday evening for example. Sometimes I get takeout dinner on the way to the barn and then just take a bit of time having dinner in the pasture watching my horse. Posted via Mobile Device
The long nights before shows are my favorite Staying out in the barn until near midnight just pampering Cowboy, fan and stereo on, cleaning out my baby boy's mane, tail, coat, and clipping, and all the other beautiful parts of getting ready to load up and show all weekend!
I like riding, of course, but I find cleaning tack the most relaxing. Everything gets wiped down after each use, and I love the one day a week when I set up a chair, music, some iced tea and clean all of it.
I love clipping and pulling manes, and luckily for me, my mare loves this!
However, since you can't clip and pull everyday, my favorite thing is just rubbing her. She loves when you rub (either with a curry or your knuckles) her back beside her spine. The harder the better! I rub her, she tilts her head to the side with lips quivering and eyes closing!
As for music, I usually just put on a classical music channel.
I don't normally listen to music on the barn unless paw has the radio going, I think it's best to be able to hear things around you when you are working with your horse.
My favorite thing to do? Scratch maverick's neck.
Especially since I'm not riding at the moment, I love to just come and hang out with him--groom him, turn him out, etc <3 My accident, which has kept me from riding for nearly two years, has definitely taught me patience and that there is more to horse ownership than just riding.
