What's in YOUR grooming kit?

I thought this would be fun. I've seen there are a lot of popular vlogs online about people making videos of "whats in their purse", or "whats in their gym bag". Thought it would be fun to do this and hear from everyone. This can be your every day grooming kit and additions during show season. Pictures are every better!

What's in your grooming kit?

Ill start tho, I'm not home so I don't have the exact photo of what I currently use and how it's set up, but I found an actual picture of our grooming tote. We use a tool tote made by husky, because it allows us to keep all the different types of detanglers, bug spray, showsheen, hoof ointments, cleaners, leather moisturizers etc in the outside pockets. Our kits holds you're regular brushes, hoof picks, scissors etc that you would normally find.

I have no pics, but I have a basic blue, plastic grooming box. In it, the basic grooming sup;plies: 2 curries, a stiff brush, hoof picks, a soft curry for the legs, mud scraper and a face brush.

I also have thrush off, and now No thrush powder, MGT, some sponges and a cup for pouring liquids in if needed. I have some betadine solution and antifungal cream ( though, I sometimes keep them in the med cabinet).

Toted off the side is the sprays when needed: the detangler and fly spray.

Tossed on top is my long lead line and my lunge line.

I used to keep my treats in there, but discovered a rodent found them and helped themselves to it, leaving turds behind. Considering I keep the grooming box in the feed room, wasn't a good idea. I just put my treats in with the BO's. I don't care if people grab them for the lesson horses since if I run out, I use the BO's a little, so I just contribute to the treat bin, she was fine with that.

I borrow a sweat scraper and softer brushes if I need them. I will eventually get my own, but there is no immediate rush.

Mine has a soft brush, flexible rubber curry, mane comb, pick, scissors, and bot knife. I don't like stiff brushes or currys that are plastic or the hard rubber ones.
I don't use detangler, bug spray, hoof oils, or anything else like that. I do have a spray bottle of iodine tho.
I keep it all in an Ariat tote.

Cool thread. :)

I keep my show stuff at home, until show season! But that includes all kinds of stuff. Sponges, scrubbing brushes for baths, mane & tale stuff, ShowSheen, shampoo, etc. Also have a massaging brush which is awesome for bathing! & some stuff to keep my boots clean. More detangler too.

As for my daily grooming stuff, my bag looks like this:
It's a Roma tote. Really nice, lasted me YEARS now. Plenty of different pockets & whatnot so everything stays organized. Yours is very nice too! Love it.

I keep my curry combs, combs for mane/tail, little face brush, hoof-pick, soft brush, hard brush, & shedding blade for when they start to shed. Almost shedding season now. Detangler. Fly spray too, although I only really need it for spring/summer of course. It still stays in my bag all year-round though. We have hoof ointment at the barn, plenty of it so I don't really need to buy my own. :)

Oh, and show stuff.
I've got a separate case for that. It's got a stiff brush(never used), two soft brushes, a hard rubber curry(ick), a flexible jelly curry, mane comb, solo comb, and pick. Then I have two hoof polish bottles, yarn and elastics, braiding belt with supplies, bottle of hair gel, and single use razors.

When I had four horses and was hard trail riding, each horse had their own grooming box. I used shoe box size, hard plastic storage boxes from WalMart. That way the medicines were safe from breaking and I could turn the water hose on the boxes when they needed cleaned.

Since mine were for on-the-road, every horse had a mane comb, couple of different style brushes, towel, couple of hoof picks, something for cuts that would work on the body or the frog.

These days I only have two horses and no longer trail ride. Each horese still has his own Furminator, brushes, mane combs, hoof picks. Everything has their names on it or color coded. They share the shop vac. Stuff just sits in containers on the barn counter.

I have to lug my grooming box a ways as the tack room is down a horse-inaccessible aisle in an old barn. Because of this, it only has what I am using right now, and seasonal grooming things stay in the tack room along with meds etc. Stuff that never leaves the box: rubber curry, dandy brush, body brush, face brush. Hoof pick. Rubber grooming mitt, mane & tail comb. Flannel rags. I guess that's it.

Right now there is MTG and rubber gloves and thrush-x, it being the wet season. Soon the shedding blade and fly spray will be added in.

Gosh this makes me miss my horse! I'm 3000 miles from her right now. Back next week though.

My god I have SO much stuff I need to invest in some kind of tote. I have two red generic totes with the handles. One for bottles- mtg, kopperkare, pine tar, hooflex, shampoos, detangler, shine spray, greenspot remover, turpentine, the only thing I don't have is fly spray.

The other has my brushes- two curry combs, face brushes, dandy brush, stiff bristle brush, bucket brush, brush brush brush and more brushes.

Then, I have a three tier tool box full of stuff. Braiding bands, braiding combs, more brushes, hoofpicks, hoof knife, nippers and rasp. So much stuff!

I also do not have any pictures, and I'm not even sure where the kit is right now since I'm horseless right now, but I do know what's in it.

Brushes: (all brushes are natural fiber unless noted)
Stiff/ dandy brush
Body brush
Finishing brush
Soft face brush
Flick brush (synthetic)
Medium brush (synthetic)
Tail brush (synthetic and almost never used.)

Curries & combs:
Plastic curry
Rubber curry
Metal curry
Face curry
Coarse finer curry
Curry mitt
Mane comb
Pulling comb

Other items:
4-5 hoof picks (including one of those 'ultimate hoof picks)
Shedding blade
Braiding kit
Sheepskin mitt
Rub rags
Sponges
Scissors
body clippers
small clippers
sweat scraper
detangler
coat polish
hoof polish
spot remover spray (can't remember which brand)
chamois leather
wisping/ strapping/ banging pad (which ever you prefer to call it.)

Than I have my 'bath bucket':
Sponges
shampoo
color enhancing shampoo
conditioner
a second sweat scraper
loofahs
plastic curry

I may or may not have an addiction to grooming supplies....

My father made this Mahogany custom brush box for my horse :)

I'm only going to list what I keep in there and not bother with my med kit, hoof conditioner, or anything else.

Inside the box:
Oster Soft Finishing Brush
Oster Hard Bristle Brush
Hard Bristle wood handled Brush (mostly use this one for brushing off his fly masks between washes).
Oster Face Brush (Large)
Natural hair wood handled face brush (Small)
Oster Heavy Rubber Curry Comb
Oster Fine Rubber Curry Comb
Metal Curry Comb/Shedding Blade
2 Hoof Picks (1 Mini Jack Hammer, 1 Oster that I take trail riding, LOVE my mini Jack Hammer, since I have small hands)
Weaver Leather Wood Handled Natural Bristle Hoof Brush
Extra rope halter

That's about all I can think of without it in front of me.

I use the "pink stuff", would have to actually go out and see what the bottle says to name it. You add water to it and spray it on mane and tail and it just works to get a brush through.

I don't like the brushes with balls on the end. I tend to buy brushes for people hair for manes and tails. In my opinion you pull out less hair that way. I love thick full silky manes and tails.

I rub my horses down for a few minutes per side with a soft rubber curry comb before brushing. I think this makes them look great, especially this time of year when they are shedding for spring.

Good blankets and stall sheets, lighting. There is a lot to say about this, but a nice night time stall with a sheet and blanket keeps them looking slick and shiny all year with daily attention in my opinion.

One of my mares tends to break out in big dapples all over her bay body in spring. I can't wait. To me that is when she looks her best, right about mid spring. Who doesn't love some dapples?

This is a fun thread!

I have a couple different 'grooming kits' because I'm a hoarder who has acquired more than they need. Story of my life.

My basic grooming is this:

Except mine is in pink.
At $60+ for a mane and tail comb, a mane and tail brush, a hoof pic, a soft curry, a dandy, a body brush, and a tote it feels a little steep, but I love the products and they feel worth the price. I also keep a massager, show sheen, fly spray, Vetricin (sp?), a shammy, and a few other small things.

I also have a more generic grooming tote, like this:

Filled with odds and ends that I've collected over the years. A dozen+ brushes of all sorts, a braiding kit, ugh the list goes on and on.

Like @Horseychick87, I also keep a bathing bucket with shampoo, conditioner, a mitt, and a sweat scraper.

This thread made me realize I might need to organize xD

Bahahahaha!! I love the admission.

So I'm considering getting a vacuum for our horses. Thinking of using mostly for shows to get the dust out. I have not been able to find a CORDED portable hand vacuum and I wondered if any of you or someone you know is or has used them in the past? I've tried multiple cordless ones that just won't last more than 5-10mins.

I just have a generic tote like the one pictured above. Stuff changes in there depending on the season and the weather. But typically has scissors, hoof picks, dandy brush, soft body brush, face brush, a couple combs, rubber curry & plastic curry, towel, elastics, sweat scraper, shedding blade....just basic grooming stuff.

Also has a lot of dirt, hair and dust. I can't wait for spring cleaning.

Thank you I appreciate the post. I have seen something similar here as well, but I am hoping to find something a lot smaller and portable. I also don't want to scare all horses within a block radius with a loud vacuum being the rest of the horse and rider population is not used to it. A small portable vacuum would give me the option to make it much more horse friendly even around horses that have not been around them.

That's mine. Except I use a different hoof pick with the brush thing on the other side because that one broke. I also have a sponge brush (one of those soft brushes with a sponge in the middle) also a normal sponge, I have different brushes but those are the ones i usually use except in the summer when the horses arnt shedding I use a different curry comb that isn't so ruff.

This is my box:

In it I have,
Stiff curry
One of these:

A soft curry
3 face brushes (I love tiny face brushes for some reason; can't stop buying them )
3 mane combs
dandy brush
2 body brushes
2 hoof picks with brushes
mane 'n tail detangler
some kind of hoofmaker stuff (not sure what its called, but it works really well!)
and sometimes I'll have an extra lead rope, lunge line, or halter on top.
Except for all that I have a whole lot of dust and horse hair! Cool thread, by the way!

I have tote envy! Now I have to find totes like yours. Great. Just when I thought I didn't really need any new horse stuff...
Honestly hun the best place is your local hardware store. Stay away from tack stores where they have the usual stuff and go to your local hardware in the toolbox section. Amazing stuff there for all budgets :loveshower:

And @Warecat that's one fancy tote!

Mine are full of horse hair because Harley is STILL shedding, sigh. Every once in a while, I empty them and shake out the dust and hair.

We don't have a show kit, really. We just throw in whatever extra stuff we might need. I do have a special braiding tools bag though. Otherwise, our totes are pretty boring! Rubber curry, hard brush, soft brush, human hair brush for manes and tails, curry mitt for legs, face brush which we almost never use, and hoof pic. Oh, and a shedding block as per my Harley comment above.

Fun thread!
@PoptartShop, I looove the tote you posted, might have to make an investment for myself and get one ;) (just what I need, lol)

I use the basic plastic "pony club recommended" box:

mine was just recently cleaned out, so it's not quite as full (or hairy) as normal:
-two rubber curries (one with a broken hand strap)
-two soft brushes
-one stiff brush
-at least two hoofpicks (possibly up to 4 because I'm a hoarder??)
-sweat scraper
-shedding blade and block
-swat ointment
-two pairs of scissors
-tick jar
-sunscreen
-gloves (for grooming)

So that's what's in the box... but really at this point my entire trunk is a grooming/care kit, I also have fly spray sitting in a bucket so it doesn't overturn, another bucket full of hoof care (thrushbuster, no-thrush powder, save-a-hoof gel), as well as a bag of cotton balls, diapers and a bag of epsom salts (can you tell I've dealt with thrush lately?), my hoof jack (and hoof knife, nippers, rasps), and just recently I upgraded my first aid kit from a cardboard SmartPak box to a nice plastic tote/storage box (definitely need to go through my first aid and replace the old/expired stuff though).

My box is also the basic plastic box in bright yellow. I was given it as a kid and despite being given others I’ve grown rather attached. It has a broken handle and worn ghostbuster film stickers (the first film).

Inside
3 rubber curry combs – 2 large and a small
1 plastic curry comb
1 metal curry comb
1 rubber grooming mitt
1 dandy brush
2 body brushes
3 hoofpicks – 2 metal and 1 with a brush
1 hoofoil
1 comb
2 plaiting combs
1 small tin of Zambuk
