winter tail maintenance

I'm sure there are many threads on winter tail and mane care but I can't seem to find any... so with that, being said what is your winter mane/tail routine? I live in Wyoming and it got to -20F many times last winter. I'm trying to grow my horses tail out and id like to wash it frequently and bag it but it will be too cold in the winter to do it as much as I want. So any ideas? Thanks! Oh and id like to grow her mane out too I'm thinking wash, condition, French braid and sleezy for the winter...any ideas would be awesome! Thanks again!

Last winter I would brush my mares tail about once every second week, but I would unbraid it and finger comb it with cowboy magic every few days. Her tail grew quite a bit last winter with that routine. Not too sure about the mane, as my one horse always had it cut short, but I would be interested in hearing what others do!

I always feel like a bad person when I read posts like this, I brush my horse's tail every time I ride (yes, with a real brush) then it just gets left. I use CarrDay and Martin mane and tail when I brush it but I don't braid it or bag it or wash it very often.
Same with his mane, mane and tail spray and a brush every time I ride and it gets left. He's always had a thin mane but it's grown loads since I got him, it was about 3 inches long in some places when I got him 2 years ago lol.
This is what they look like so I don't think I'm ruining his hair lol.

DancingWithSunny, he has a beautiful mane and tail! The mare who's tail I fussed over all last year, I show in western pleasure, and her tail just does not grow well unless I treat it like my best china. Not every horse needs to have a big fuss made over their tails, I just didn't want to spend money on a fake tail for her. My other horses tails and manes get brushed regularly, without a concern :)
