Question Would this be a horrible idea?

My horse has these white marks on his nose due to an idiot tying him up with a chain. I show both english and western, and while the noseband on my english bridle covers it up, if I try to cover it with the Shapeleys touch up and a matte bronzer, it wipes off. I tried even using face paint, and that rubbed off. I don't have time to put it on before the western starts.

My mom had an idea to try something like a root touch-up that people use to touch up gray hair. If I could get the right color, I wouldn't be opposed to it. My concern is that some chemicals could irritate his skin. He hasn't had a problem with sensitive skin, but I don't want to find out the hard way. If I find ammonia free, would I be safe?

I guess it's a possibility to use ammonia free hair dye......BUT have you thought of something like brown food coloring? You can get it at specialty cake/baking stores in a paste form - you could just rub a little on? It certainly would stain the hair and most likely not have all the risks involved with hair dyes?
nvr2many and Boo Walker like this.

I wouldn't use traditional hair dyes (they are rough!) but I've dyed plenty an animal in absurd colors using plant-based natural hair dyes, including my old horse. They don't stink, they last a good while, and they are gentle as can be (you can eat them, at least the kind I had).

I do not remember the brand name, but I'm sure that a google search will lead you into the right direction- or perhaps talk to a groomer (lots of dog groomers do some funky dye stuff with their clients).

That's similar to the Shapeleys stuff I used, just a different brand. It doesn't stay too well, especially with a bridle on.

Ok, just thought I would mention it. I would go with something more permanent then. That way less of a hassle.

If you had to dye it, go with "henna" hair dye. It's 100% all natural.

Please, please do not use human hair dye on your horses muzzle. You could end up with a bigger problem than a few white spots. I'm posting a link to some doggy hair dye I use at work. It's a gel so it's simple to use and it won't rub off. It washes out in a couple of washes or fades out on it's own in about 3 weeks. Good luck!

They make colored hair spray for humans, in the hair dye section/hair spray area.

It stays on well, and is cheap and comes in quite a few colors.

I'd spray some on Q-tip and use that to apply.
