Wrapping a tail?

Okay I plan on wrapping my mare's tail to keep it white after I get it white.

I thought I would just use Vetwrap or something like that, but if it has to be re-done every other day I think that would get slightly expensive(unless you can re-use the vet wrap?)

Anyway how often does it have to be taken down and re-wrapped? And what do you use to wrap it? Or suggest using. I plan on giving her a fly swatter extension thing on the end of her tail.

Is this horse stalled or turned out? Vet wrap cannot be reused, at least in my experience.

And if horse is turned out in area with trees, I wouldn't do it. To easy to get tail caught on something and pull hair out.

If horse is stalled, then I'd wrap it after braiding and making a bundle of it with old sheeting and then masking tape around it.

Can't you buy tail bags created just for wrapping tails?

Don't wrap it too tight and check it often. I've seen horses lose tails that had it wrapped too tight around the bone and it in essence docked the the tail. Not pretty at all.
