I also wrap my mare's tail in vetwrap. Like AK I leave it in until it looks like it's coming off. Since she's an app and not known for their long/thick tails, I have seen a huge improvement in length and thickness.

And i've used tailbags before and within a week it would have fallen off and I didnt see any difference in her tail.

I don't touch my horse's tails. I hate bags. I find they don't do actually to their job and they dry out the tail, without mentioning they look hidious.

I leave my horse's tails and only detangle them maybe once a month with my hands. I start with putting some mane and tail conditioner followed by hand detangling then I very gently comb the tail out and add some showsheen.

I use tail bags, but only those that are completely satin lined so as not to rub the horses tail out I also have a product called Tail plaits.

For the tail plait, you plait your horses tail up in the sections, you only need to take them out every 6 weeks. Also comes with dangly bits that are used like hairs of the tail to keep flies off. Extremely good for horses with tails that stain.

My horses have tails that I have to trim from touching the ground.
