My 12 year old quarter horse has had a cough for about a week and a half , he doesent do it often just every once in a while. What do yall think about this?A friend of mine had a horse that developed a cough and she thought it was the feed which is the same feed that I use and it came from the same place, so she switched feeds and they didint have any more cough.Do yall think it could really be the feed.I hate to call out the vet for a little cough.

He could have developed heaves. And they have this heavy cough. And the feed very well could be the source. My horse developed it a few years ago, and once I changed his hay, and took him off alfalfa, he stopped coughing.

There are meds for it, but if changing the feed helps, why give yer horse a medicine, especially since the meds can have side effects.

Could be from the hay is it moldy or anything so you feed him on the ground cause if its dust where you live that could be causing it to may try watering down the hay best of luck
