So the vet has diagnosed my horse, Hero with photic head shaking syndrome. I have just been doing a ton of research and now have decided to start with a UV riding mask and fly mask to see if it help mild his symptoms. Right now he is being kept in the barn during the light hours and stuff. So with that im done typing. I just wanted to see if anyone have had experiences with this and what they have done. thanks

I owned a horse that had this before it was something we (general horse world) knew about to diagnose.

It was so frustrating to have a horse that I trained and showed all winter indoors fall to pieces every summer outdoors.

I have heard of people having very good luck with the nose covers and other such things. Fingers crossed you find a simple way to deal with this.

Yep, I used to ride SJ with a TB stallion with the same syndrome. We used fly masks etc to help with symptoms but he unfortunately couldn't continue in competition. That was 6 years ago though so I hope there have been more developments since that might help you more!

Depends on what you want from him - high level competition horse or trail buddy?

I know im pretty frustrated I love my horse only had him for 9 months, he came off the track and we were starting to do well and his symptoms started to get worse. I suspected it earlier this summer when he was doing it bad at the time, and I came home and found some websites about the syndrome and then he stopped/didnt do it as bad, and lately it has been back into full swing, my vet came to look at his eyes and was concern about it and after some test diagnosed him with it. Makes me sad but oh well must go on. Oh right now he was just a pleasured horse but suppose to be my future low level eventer but ill just have to wait and see..
