9 Hour Transport to New Mexico

I was hoping someone could give me input on this...I'm bringing my gelding to New Mexico and from home it's about a 9 hour drive. He will have company in the trailer, he's a good loader, and he is fairly cooperative, but he does tend to get nervous even after a 15 minute ride in the trailer. Im worried he might have an anxiety attack or something along those lines and make himself sick or injure himself. Any ideas on how to avoid this or if you have any input on this situation? Thank you so much!

P.s. He will also be leaving his friend from home and he has a past with separation anxiety. Could this be an issue too? I appreciate the help!

What kind of trailer? Stock trailer wouldn't be a good idea for a nervous guy. A trailer with stalls would be a lot better. Anyone know if you can dose a horse with a light sedative to relax them without compromising balance? Check with your vet. We always stop and take the horses for a short walk after 5 hours. But with a nervous one I don't know...

Two days out start feeding soaked beatpulp, give him an electrolyte the day before to get him drinking, I usually stop twice on a 8 hour trip and offer water. Use a hay bag just make sure it is high enough feet can't tangle.

New Mexico? I'm jealous! I will be heading out that way in another couple of years and I can't wait! My trip will be a long one also from north Texas. Would be very interested to know how your trip goes.
