I'm just wondering what dosing schedule the other Adequan users out there have for their horses. My mare did the "loading dose" with the 7 injections 4 days apart and then went on the once monthly injections. She has been on the monthly injections for about 5 years now and is doing well. She did not have severe lameness issues to start with, just was competing a fair amount and seemed to have a bit of stiffness/offness on occasion. She has never been too lame to ride and continued to show until last year when we got started in competitive trail. She has received great scores, with no stiffness or soreness at her competitive rides.
However, I work at a (cat only) vet clinic and I've noticed that a lot of the DVM magazines are now advocating doing the 7 doses 4 days apart every 6 months and forgoing the monthly maintenance injections. The manufacturer makes no claims regarding treatment after the initial loading dose, so it is really just based on user's experiences. My vet still suggests the monthly injections since she hasn't had any personal experience with giving it on the other schedule, but I am just curious if others have noticed a bigger improvement with switching to giving the loading dose twice per year.
If anyone has any experience with this and would like to share your thoughts, that would be great! I just want to keep my girl in the best shape possible for the longest time possible
