Age my girl

I know its hard to put an age a horse over 12, but anyone want to take a stab at this girl's age? My vet and dentist both guessed mid to upper teens. She was sold to me as 13.
I was trying to compare her to pictures on aging teeth. I saw one pic that looked like hers, everyone was guessing 20 but the mare was actually 16. Her galvayne's groove is all the way down her tooth like a 20yro horse, but her teeth aren't as angled as you would expect for that age. On her front incisors it looks like the top of the galvaynes groove is disappearing as though she is up over 20 though
She does have a small sway back, but nothing terrible.

I'm going to say late teens, no older than 20. I've read that mid-teen teeth will be roughly triangular, whilst 20+ they have a greater depth than width. Your mares are getting past the triangular stage, so I'd say she's at least 16.

I'd agree, late teens. Not older then 20. As far as her sway back, I think she is just really downhill. If you raised her front end up she would look normal.

Thanks! I had originally thought she was 17/18ish but then I when I was looking at all the teeth charts I wasn't so sure.
She's definitely not downhill, just happens to be standing/walking downhill in both pics. I should have posted one on flat ground.

Galvayne's Groove is completely along the length of the upper back incisor. When the groove is the full length of the tooth the horse is 20. Your horse has a full length Galvayne's Groove.

And from this site:
Aging Horses

Another dental feature useful for aging older horses is Galvayne's groove. As shown in the image to the right, Galvayne's groove is located on the lateral surface of the upper third incisor. It appears first near the gum line at about 10 years of age. The groove extends halfway down the tooth at 15 years, and all the way down the tooth by 20 years. By approximately 25 years, Galvayne's groove is halfway gone, and by 30 years, it has disappeared completely.

BTW I like your horse. Very nicely put together.

If she were 15 she would have a more distinct hook at the back of the upper third incisor. I stick with 20.

It's been said that the galvayne's groove isn't accurate enough to use as an age tool anymore, which is why I disregarded it. The angle and shape of the teeth is more accurate.

At 15 the third incisor (the one that also displays Galvayne's Groove) has a distinct hook at the back edge. This horse does not have that. His hook has worn some (like a 20 year old). The shape of the teeth and the lack of cups are what have me saying 20.

Now.. for this animal 20 is hardly a death sentence. He looks a horse that can easily work well through his 20's with no issue.
