Alfalfa Cubes

ok so I do not know if this is in the right spot but.... at a roping my friend was putting up his horse and instead of feeding flakes of hay to his horse he fed alfalfa cubes... I had never thought of that and thought it would be so much easier than hauling bales of hay with you when you travel. So my question. Is feeding alfalfa cubes a good idea? How much do you feed them? How do you feed them the cubes? And how do you introduce the cubes to the horse, so that they are just eating cubes while your are on a trip?
Thanks and sorry if its confusing

I feed cubes too. I find it easier than hauling hay or I use them inbetween getting a round bale.
Some have had problems with horses choking on them and brreak them up in to smaller pieces.

Depending on the weight of the cubes, I will feed a little 2 gallon bucket for each feeding. Because they are so compressed they take up much less room than hauling hay. We have a rooftop hayrack on the trailer but I find it a pain to use...

I DON'T LEAD 'EM AND FEED 'EM, I RIDE 'EM AND SLIDE 'EM.
