Are All Dewormers Created Equal?

I was picking up some Zimecterin yesterday at Tractor supply and noticed a HUGE difference in price between that and a few 'no-name' brands. The Z was 10.99 and they had some other Ivermectin for 2.99 on sale.

Is the efficacy the same? I didn't check percentages of ingredients or anything which I should have done but was wondering for the next time I needed it.

I stock pile on the cheapie $2.99 Ivermecin when its available. Most of my rescues come full of worms and between the five days of Safeguard and the three Ivermectins I give them its nice to save a few bucks. I think it works just the same, I always have a fecal check done and everyone is negative on worms when I'm done with them =D

I think if you check the percentage of active ingredients and they are the same, than save some $$ and buy the generic. I do the same on myself. I have no problem buying the generic brands as long as the ingredients is the same. Do check the experation date. Many places put them on sale with a short use by date.

Yeah, I always read the labels, and they are usually the same, lol. just make sure its Ivermectin, as that kills the most types of worms. I read that somewhere....

I use the generics - I did ask my Vet about it and she said the generics were just fine. I have 4 horses so it does save a lot of money!

I usually use the generic - except when they are due for the round that gets Tapeworms - which we just did yesterday. Then I get the Zirmectin Gold since there is no generic that gets tapes.

All I pay my psychiatrist is cost of feed and hay, and he'll listen to me any day!

I only use equimax- for ivermectin months (kills tapeworms as well.) There are no generics for this so I have to pay $10.95 a tube. GASP. I usually get the generics other wise, it save me a TON per year. My vet suggested I not use zimectrin gold, or quest gel. Shes seen some horses react badly too them. Quest- she saw mouth ulcers, not sure about gold though.
