Many of the tick-borne diseases are hard to get rid of. The immune system - whether horse or human- plays a large role in the prevention and eradication of disease. Boosting the immune system is necessary, and alternative medicine will help with increasing its function.
Talk to any of the LLMD's (Lyme Literate Doctors) and they will tell you that reduction of the bacteria or other tick-borne pathogen is necessary for your immune system to work. Lyme works to specifically shut down the production of antibodies. Decrease the pathogen load with antibiotics, and increase the immune system function with excercise, diet, herbs, massage, acupuncture, and meditation. Most LLMD's will tell you not to rely solely on Western Medicine, but to use any and all forms of medicine you are comfortable with to fight the disease.
The reverse is also touted: don't rely soley on alternative medicine. You might be able to keep the disease in check, but you won't get rid of it.
