Annular Ligament strain

Hi I have a horse who has strained his annular ligament. He is a 14.3hh irish cob who loves to jump. He has been into the vets and who drained his leg and when trotted up afterwards was sound. He is now on box rest for 2 weeks and then on 'play pen rest' for 2 weeks. The puffiness has gone down (now day 3 of box rest). My questions are has anyone ever had experience of an annular ligament strain? Has anyone had this operated on, as this is the next stage if my horse does not become totally sound? Also if he does come sound I am thinking of just turning him away until next April just so he can build up his strength again. Any information would be brilliant. Many thanks.
