Annular ligament surgery

I have a 13 year old cutting horse that is apparantly going to need his annular ligament cut (same as carpal tunnel surgery) My vet has done this to roping horses and had them return to work, but has not done it on a cutter so doesnt know if he could go back to work cutting. I need to know if anyone has had this done and what level of acticity their horse was able to return to.

About 15 years ago I rode a friends horse who had this surgery. He was a pleasure horse doing lower level shows and trail riding. He was initially sound but eventually the issue came back I think they may even have done a 2nd surgery. He never returned to full work and in the end was put down as he didn't take well to retirement.

Sorry for the doomy picture. However on the bright side, vet medicine has improved so much since then that it might have a higher success rate now.
