i was wondering if anyone had any idea about when we will be able to move horses again??? i was told we could move them maybe in feb, but there will be no shows untill another year!!! what do you think???

oh and another thing, what do you think about the racing industry being allowed to race? do think it is right?
i live close to a red zone, and although the are no races there, in towns close by they are still racing! so how come we are not allowed to show yet?

i read in a magazine an idea that the DPI or government (who ever is deciding what is going on) should set a date and if the EI is not controlled by that date, they let it go. i think it is a good idea, but what do you think?

ive heard heaps of different things so its hard to believe any of them.

i agree that the DPI or the government or whoever is calling the shots needs to let horse owners know more. i also agree that they should set a date and if its not sorted by then, let it go. its inevitable that at some point, every horse is going to get it. they cant completely eradicate it now that it is here so i think we need to learn to live with it. my horses have been vaccinated and micro chipped and if everyone does the same this whole stupid thing can be over and lives can return to normal

I think that if they had let it go, then everyone would have got it and gotten over it already and everything would be back to normal.

Some shows are starting in SA in the new year, mainly ones that have complied to the strict DPI regulations, and the numbers of entries are limited. But I think it wont be until perhaps next season (Aug 08) when things may be looking more normal.

It kind of suits me as my girl wont be ready until then anyway

It's driving everyone mad huh?!!

I've heard that horses may be able to move again in the next few months maybe but shows etc may not start until closer to the end of the year.

I've also heard that they may allow some shows or events to go ahead with strict rules. One of these being after the show/event is over all of the horses involved must go into quarantine for a week or two. If this ends up being the case then i don't think many people will go. it's just not worth going for a day or two and then having to sit around for a week or more waiting and wasteeing time.

I don't know but they've got to decide something soon!!!
i think they should have just let it go so horses could catch it and get over it. It's not as bad as the media was making out. At first the madia made it sound like Ei was a dealy disease or something but it's not it's just a cold really and a healthy horse should be able to recover easily.

It's fustrating!!!!!!!!!!!

How come? Is horse theft getting bad?

And no, I dont really care. I think it's a neat procedure. I just didn't know if it had to do with the EI.
lol nah its purpose was for identifying horses that have been vaccinated. it works for both though as the number would then come up with my details etc

ive heard some vets do it that way too but its more for the fussy people who dont want that tiny patch of hair shaved  its not like it matters considering that by the time the flu is over and we can show again the hair would have grown back :)
