Ok just bought this horse two weeks ago. Beautiful silver grulla mare 15 years old. They said she was bred (I don't think so she isn't showing anything and is actually slightly on the thin side) and when the stallion mounted her her was viscious and took a chunk out of her shoulder. Well they said the vet had stitched it. Well then they said it got huge and busted open with proud flesh. The vet went in and cut it all out and it grew back shut fairly nice. The origional happened about 10 months ago. When I bought her I went over it and nothing bothered her on the shoulder or the top on her back and the hair was half grown over. Well tonight I was brushing her and she has two puss pockets the size of quarters on her shoulder. One was busted open and was very hard the other is still full an very squashy. The hair around this area just kinda fell out in chunks and she was very itchy. As I placed my hand up on her back to lean in better to look she about went throught the roof. I can't even lightly touch the top crest of her back. She stood patiently for me to flush out the busted one with peroxide and water. But I don't know what to think if it. The puss pockets are about three inches apart in the area where she had been busted open origionally. Is this some form of proud flesh just happening in a small area? But why is her back not able to be touched. I already have the vet scheduled to come out next Tuesday for a colt I guess she'll be ok til then. Ok any guesses or suggestions would be great. Think I should drain the other puss pocket?
