It depends on exactly what grain your horse is allergic to. Oats? Corn? Bran? Barley? Have you had testing done?

If you know what your horse is allergic to, then you are your vet can contact the feed manufacturer that supplies feed stores in your area to see which of their products would meet your needs.

What does testing involve? Bloodwork? Approximately how much would it cost to have her tested because I don't think her present owner has done that.

Thanks for your information.

Testing is done on a blood sample and can be fairly expensive. But without knowing WHAT grain the horse is allergic to, it's really hard to cut the right thing from the diet.

If no testing has been done, how do they know the horse is allergic to grain?

I agree you should get blood work done. I use to have a hackney pony that was allergic to pretty much any starch we sent her to cornell university and ran test on her. Working with the vet we found her a complete diet and she went on to show and live a long healthy life.
