This discussion could go on forever because the fact of the matter is... not every horses is registered and not every linneage is verified... which means any horse, of any breed (example - "this is my purebred arab - he's not registered)... well, you can call the horse purebred but w/out papers, there is no proof that he is... and without papers... there is no proof that there is not some impressive breeding in that horse..... so I geuss to avoid mass hysteria we should all rush out and have our horses tested for HYPP...

sorry, that was a little bit out of line but... it's kind of what I think the OP is trying to say... something to the effect of...

if you don't know for positive that your horse is not an Impressive bred horse then you could have that issue.... it's a big IF but I geuss it's a valid IF...

I personally worry more about EPM and West Nile then I do about HYPP....

"Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I love you
Go to work, do your best, don't outsmart your common sense
Never let your prayin knees get lazy
And love like crazy"

These are both VALID concerns...

I understand the OP is concerned and wanting to info people and is learning that the art of internet information it is not always easy to convey your thoughts on screen ...

IF AND WHEN a hhorse shows signs of a HYPP illness then there is NO HARM in testing... they never found out why or where this gene came from... the horse of known parentage that was considered grade was a saddlebred walker cross and tested POSTIVE!!!

I have been called the NSC Nazi more then once ... I hate traditional feed methods of loading our horses up on grains and junk food :)
