Average healing time for scratches?

I have 2 thoroughbreds that have both developed scratches :/ I have been treating both horses with betadine soap and desitin for one week now. I know it is still early in the healing process but I just need an idea of average healing time. They both still having mild swelling which has gone down but is still present. Both horses are also lame at the trot in 1 direction. I'm just frustrated and impatient. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Aww, if they are lame from scratches it must be a pretty severe case. If you want quick healing, I swear by this, athletes foot spray. You will see healing in a matter of days, not a week. Shave the area, clean the area well and apply spray a few times daily. If they get wet or muddy, try to towel dry them and not clean with water unless absolutely necessary. I have tried many things, this works!!! Don't forget to spray near the horse first to make sure they arent startled by it, don't want an accident.

Treatment will only go so far - have you also altered the environment in which you are keeping them? Are you associating the scratches and the lameness, or have you evaluated that for other possible causes?

I will absolutely try the athletes foot spray, very curious. I live in AZ so moisture is not a problem. I think the stress of a new home lead to scratches. The younger horse nicked his front leg with his back hoof and I think it became the access point for the infection. The younger horse gave the infection to the older one through leg wraps.
