Black horse and flies?

Hello everyone-

My black paint mare seems to attract lots more flies than my bay does. We spray her with Endure fly spray, which seems to help, but it doesn't get rid of all of them. Have any of you out there with black horses ever experienced this? If so, do you have any suggestions?

Also, I saw in a tack magazine that there are leg wraps and boots that are supposed to block the flies from biting at the horse's lower legs. These wraps and boots are in the same category as basic fly sheets.

Lucky and I would appreciate any and all help!

Yes I've noticed darker horses attract more flys. We use fly spray, garleze, and bacon grease on the chest at the base of the tail.

LOL, I was thinking about posting saying that my only grey is attracting the flies, but the two bays and the black aren't

This may sound crazy, but have you noticed your grey smells, um, different?

Yes my daughters black overo has twice as many bugs around him my palominos don't have the bug problem.

There isnt a spray on market that works more then an hour most times your lucky to have it last an hour.

My dark brown made is covered in welts/bumps on her chest that she LOVES scratched. Her lip gets wiggling and her head goes straight up in the air and bobs up and down. She is miserable.

Trying to find a good fly sheet is such a battle. But she needs a hood and belly wrap because of how bad the flies are with her. Poor girl.

My sorrel horses don't have near the amount of flies. But the little black biting flies are out with a vengeance this year. Grrr....

Thanks everyone... glad to see that it not just us- but for those of you who have use fly sheets, have they helped at all, or not anymore than the spray?

The flys are really bothering my palomino (her neck looks awful, she won't let us touch her) but they have not touched our 3 sorrel horses! I didn't know about using bacon grease, I'm going to try it first thing in the morning.

Please do share how it works for you, I'm pretty sure most think I'm the crazy bacon guy, but it does work.
