Bleeding hocks, help!
My 15hh gelding has a really awkward way of lying in the stable, well as long as he's comfy, I don't mind that. The thing is he also gets up awkwardly and he got a scab on his hock about a month ago. Because he gets up this way all the time he keeps taking the scab off and it never has time to heel :(. It doesnt bleed much, just leaves the flesh exposed so I spray some antiseptic in it. He sleeps on his right ride, so it is the right hock that it worst although he does have a little one on his left hock too, I think this must be from getting up in the field as it has been very dry lately.
Should I get some hock boots for him to wear in the stable? Or bandage them up maybe? I work him quite a bit so I don't want to stiffen him up too much, so are they better off left alone?
Opinions please! Also would like to know if you have experianced anything simular.
