Blood in urine?..

The last days my mare has started having blood in her piss..
At first I thought it might be her heat, but when they're in heat they're not supposed to bleed blood, if I'm right?..
It's winter here, and I read that the urine might look orange-reddish in contact with snow, but I think this looks more bloody.
And there's quite a lot too IMO..

I'm just wondering what I should do?
I'll watch her tomorrow and the day after, and if it continues I'll have a vet come over, as it might be something with her health.

She is generally very healthy.
The only thing I can think of that might have triggered this is that she has managed to bite multiple holes in a couple of bedding-packages, so she might have got some plastic and bedding material in her.
This was some days ago.

Thankful for all advice..as I'm worried about her

Have you actually witnessed her urinating blood, or are you merely finding patches of red colored snow?

When horse urine comes into contact with snow or pine shavings, it looks like blood. It's not reddish-orange.

And no, a mare doesn't bleed during during her heat cycle. If she's actually bleeding out of her vulva, she has something wrong and needs to be seen by a vet immediately.

You could try to use a syringe or turkey baster & draw up a sample & take it to a vet. It wouldn't have to be a sterile sample for them to see if it was blood or not. Cheaper than a vet call.
Good luck.

No, I haven't.. but the woman who is the owner of the two other horses said that she'd noticed Silver doing it, so since she can be so sure it's Silver she must have seen her doing it. I'll ask more about it tomorrow.

Thanks. That's what I heard too..
But I've also heard that if they have blood in their urine (and it just isn't the contact with snow or somesuch), there may be some health problems involved, so ... better be safe than sorry I guess, but I'll need to watch her closely before I decide for a vet.
