Brought horses home...mare now fence walking

So my gelding and mare seemed to settle in great the first day they were home. They are alone on the farm, but there are 2 horses next door that they can see as well. Both are used to medium-large boarding facilities.

Well, my mare has now starting to fence walk where she can see the other 2 horses. Mom said she does stop during the day to graze, but evidently in the morning she comes out of her stall, mostly ignores the hay, and begins her path. In 5 days she has worn a small track into the grass.

What can I do?? Will she eventually settle down? I was going to start working them both this weekend but now it's supposed to rain a bit.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

My horse did this for a few days when I brought him home and it drove me crazy! He stopped after a few days of it though.

On the other side of the coin, if my horse starts her neurotic fence walking, she doesn't stop until you make some management change that fixes the thing that has set it off (and over the years, I've learned what triggers it). Waiting for her to "suck it up buttercup" and get over it doesn't work.

I guess this is a new horse, so you don't know if she will settle down, or if she's an OCD fencewalker who won't stop.

We had a boarder at the farm I board at the NEVER stopped. She was the most neurotic thing ever. She was so herd bound to the gelding she had been living with the even tho she had another mare in with her-made no difference. She paced CONSTANTLY. I assume she is doing the same thing still, but at her own house. Perhaps this is your mare!

She's not a new horse, I've owner them both for 11 years ;)

She is a stall weaver and did some fence walking at the places we boarded, but I haven't seen her act like this. Maybe she does just need a few more days to settle in and get used to it?

She is stopping to graze, drink, and will weave at the fence instead of walking it. I keep watching her from the window.

I wonder if getting her back into work sooner will help also? Tomorrow's supposed to be decent so I can at least start lunging them. Saturday should be a wash out and I guess Sunday will depend on how the field looks. I don't have a ring yet - just dead grass field -.-

Also she is normally very bonded to mu gelding (her son) and he's with her. Maybe she wants more horses? She does have herd bound issues that we are constantly working on as well.

My horse did it regardless of she was in work or not. It sounds as if she's on the OCD end of the spectrum here. I'd be trying to figure out what sets her off. Other recommendations I have heard include putting the horse on a calmer of some sort or putting objects like cones or hay bales on her pacing track. It's the most aggravating problem in the world because, unlike a lot of training issues, it feels as though there is very little you can do to stop them.
